Show your knife making work

From the first strike of the hammer to the final edge, share what is on your bench and keep a record of every build.

  • Posts with pictures and video

Share up to 10 pictures in a post, or short videos of up to three minutes, with a caption of up to 2,200 characters. Pictures are prepared so they look sharp on any screen.

  • Work in Progress and Fresh Off The Bench

Mark a post as Finished, Work in Progress (WIP), Fresh Off The Bench (FOTB), For Sale or Sold. WIP and FOTB posts from everyone are gathered on their own pages.

  • Builds

Group the posts of one project into a build with its own cover picture, so the story of a knife from steel to sheath stays together.

  • Pin your best work

Pin up to three posts to the top of your profile so visitors see your finest work first.

  • Share Copy

Share a copy of a post, with its pictures and caption, to Instagram, Facebook or any other app on your phone.

Find and follow makers worldwide

See what knife makers, collectors and suppliers around the world are building, and follow the people and subjects you care about.

  • Feed, Latest and Discover

Your Feed brings together the makers you follow. Latest shows the newest posts, and Discover shows what the whole community has shared, picked for you from the posts you like, save and comment on.

  • Follow makers

Follow a member to see their work in your Feed. Browse the directory of tags, such as #damascus, to find posts on a subject.

  • Search and the Members directory

Search for people and tags, or browse every member. Filter the Members directory as you type, by country or by Maker, Collector or Business, and sort it A to Z, Z to A, newest or oldest.

  • Like, comment, repost and save

Cheer on a build with a like, join the conversation in the comments, repost work you admire, and save posts to come back to in your Saved tab.

A profile that is your own microsite

Every member gets a page of their own at bladesmiths.net/yourusername, and visitors who are not members can see it.

  • Picture, cover, bio and links

Add a profile picture and cover picture, a short bio, your specialities and links to your website and social pages.

  • Maker, Collector or Business

Choose the kind of account that fits you. Makers can show how long they have been making, and businesses can host events once our team has approved them.

  • Where you are

Show your country, your nation or state and your town, and choose whether your profile wears the flag of the country or of your nation or region.

  • Verified makers

A gold tick marks makers that our team has verified.

Ask questions and get honest answers

Talk to people who do the work, whether you want a quick chat or a proper answer you can find again later.

  • The Messageboard

Start a thread on a topic such as steel, handles, abrasives, grinders, hand tools or power tools, with pictures if they help. Mark replies as helpful, and mark the answer that solved it.

  • The Hangout

A live chat room for quick conversation with other members. Its messages are deleted automatically after 30 days.

  • Direct messages

Write privately to another member. You can block anyone and report any message.

  • Mentions

Mention a member with @username in a post or a comment to bring them into the conversation.

Knife making events

Find shows, open days, courses and meet-ups, hosted by approved businesses.

  • Events with a map

Each event has a date, time, address, map and picture. Members can say they are interested or going, share the event, and talk about it in its discussion.

  • In everyone’s Feed

Events appear in every member’s Feed, not only for the businesses they follow, and a business profile has an Events tab for its upcoming and past events.

Stay in the loop

Hear about the conversations that matter to you, on whichever device you use.

  • Notifications

A bell shows when someone interacts with your posts, threads and profile, so you can reply while the conversation is fresh.

  • Install it like an app

Add Bladesmiths Network to your home screen and it opens like an app. In the installed app you can switch on push notifications.

  • Light and dark themes

Dark is the default, easy on the eyes in the workshop, and you can switch to light in the account menu.

You stay in control

A friendly place needs clear rules and members who feel safe. Here is how we look after you.

  • Private view counts

See how many members have viewed your posts and events. Only you can see those numbers.

  • Show when I’m online

A small green dot shows when a member is using the site. You can switch it off in your profile settings.

  • Report, block and appeal

Every post, comment, thread, message and member has a Report button, and our moderators aim to decide every report within 48 hours. You can block members and appeal a decision.

  • Two-step sign-in, your data, your choice

Add a second lock with an emailed code, download a copy of your data, or delete your account for good, all from your settings.

Free, and made by bladesmiths
